This year’s autumn international rugby matches are to be replaced by a new eight-team tournament – the Autumn Nations Cup – it’s been announced today.

Six Nations Rugby together with its constituent unions and federations is extremely pleased to announce details of the Autumn Nations Cup – a completely new and innovative tournament that will take place over four weekends between November 13th and December 6th, 2020.

The widely anticipated Autumn Nations Cup will feature the Six Nations teams plus Georgia and Fiji.

The new tournament has been devised in response to the coronavirus pandemic, which has prevented the major Southern Hemisphere teams from participating in the autumn fixtures.

The tournament format will consist of two pools of four teams; Group A will include England, Ireland, Wales and Georgia; Group B will include France, Scotland, Italy and Fiji.

Following three rounds of pool matches, each team from Group A will meet a corresponding team from Group B, based on their pool ranking, during finals weekend.
